Unleash your power supply

Download trainwithpower.pdf - great resource!

I wanted to make a link and file available that I really feel will help everyone. This version of "Training with Power" from Joe Friel is old (2001). I like it more then the CTS one that comes with the new PT's. I am not a big fan of the CTS stuff it is vague and not as applicable to racing and training.

The only trouble with the Friel stuff is translating zones since he uses Personal Best +/- 5%  for levels and the new Poweragent software Cyclops created use the Lim/Coggan terminology for its intensity levels.

I poached this from Trainingpeaks so please don't sue me, I am just trying to help you train and race better.

Coggan training levels - the sweet spot

The following link has a graphic design of what Andrew Coggan has been studying lately, which is based on the following theory.

Powerbook

The new Hunter Allen and Andy Coggan book about power training has finally started to show up on the velopress website. Not sure how much of the data is new. But if these two take their numerous years of experience it should provide for some very good principals.

Threshold power

From Andy Coggan:

...ways of determining your functional threshold power (roughly in
order of increasing certainty):

1) from inspection of a ride file.
2) from power distribution profile from multiple rides.
3) from blood lactate measurements (better or worse, depending on how it
is done).
4) based on normalized power from a hard ~1 h race.
5) using critical power testing and analysis.
6) from the power that you can routinely generate during long intervals
done in training.
7) from the average power during a ~1 h TT (the best predictor of
performance is performance itself).

Note the key words "hard", "routinely", and "average" in methods 4, 6,
and 7...

Power trip

Top Reasons to use a Powertap for training:

1. Save Time - if you have only one hour a day to train, then train at the level that will benefit your racing the most.

2. Save time - a powertap is simpler in use and design then its competitors, no complicated calibration.

3. Error rating of +/- of 1.5% that is on par with the top training tools

4. Nationwide support, since it is owned by Trek/Saris, andy dealer where ever you go or race can take care of you.

5. Lightweight, an SL wheel from most builders is close in weight to many top mass produced wheels.
