Pretty amazing numbers. It would be good to know if and how he changed his training regime as well during that period. I think sometimes people adopt better training habits when they start using a new tool (like a hr monitor or power meter) and this also plays a big role in the improvements. Either way - I wouldn't mind putting out the numbers he has!
